Subtracting Fractions
Subtracting fractions. . .are pretty easy. Just know the right stuff (which is on my page) and you'll know how to subtract fractions in no time!
-Knowing the Problem-
Lets say. . .that you have a fraction like 4/5 and 3/4.
The problem here is to subtract and<<<<<(denominator / other number is numerator)
-Finding a Common Denominator-
First, you need to find a common denominator. So multiply the denominators by a number until they are the same.
With the common denominators, becomes (multiply both numerator and denominator by 4)
Dont forget the other fraction. So, becomes (multiply both numerator and denominator by 5)
-Subtracting the Fractions-
Now, the problem is to subtractby.
So now you subtract the numerators, 16-15=1, while at the same time keeping the denominators.
-Answer-
After doing that, you get your answer, which is:
-Another Example-
A harder problem would be to subtract by .
Just do the same things as you would for any other fraction, which would be to go and find a common denominator.
So now after doing that, the problem turns into subtracted by. (common denominator is 168)
Now you subtract and the answer now would be: (take 77 and subtract 72, keep the denominator)

Lets say you had a full moon. Maybe you wanted to take away 1/2 of the moon. If you took away 1/2, you would just slice it in the middle, so that it turns into this. That picture on the bottom would be an example of a half, or 1/2.

OK. I would like more help finding the common denominator. More links would be nice too.
