THE SLOPE FORMULA: The slope formula is a formula that you use to figure out the slope of two points on a graph. The variable M is usually represented as the slope, or the steepness of the line. The x`s and y`s are the coordinates on the graph. The slope formula is often refered to as m= rise/run. In the slope formula you are trying to figure out what the steepness of the line.  The higher the slope value, the steeper the incline. If a line goes downward (top right to bottom left), then the slope is negative. If the line goes upward(bottom right to top left), then the slope is positive. The scientific definition of a slope is the rate at which an object accelerates on a distance versus time graph.

Example: You have the coordinates 1,2 and 3,4. The 1&3 are the y-coordinates and the 2&4 are the x-coordinates on the axis. So you do 4-3/2-1. 4 minus 3 is one and 2-1 is one. 1 divided by 1 = one.. so the slope of the line is ONE.

If the slope of a line is 0 then you know that the line is horizontal and if the slope is undefined the in is vertical.

This is how you figure it out. :]]

How to simplify your slope:

 __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Examples:

 for this graph, the coordinates are (1,2) and (5,4).  4-2 = 2. 5-1=4. rise=2, run=4. rise over run = 2/4. The slope is 2/4 or 1/2.

for this graph, the coordinates are (0,-4) and (3,0).  0-(-4)=4. 3-0=0. rise=4, run=0. rise over run=4/0. The slope is 4/0 or just 4 .Show Me What You`ve Learned.

You probably don't want me emailing you, so I'll tell you here:

I have this computer program called "OpenCanvas" that I downloaded [don't worry, it's not harmful]from the internet. It has an INCREDIBLY small size for a program. O.O;; I wrote the word "abacus" with OpenCanvas [it's gotta be hand-drawn, though], then saved it as a .bmp file and, well, uploaded it here. If you mean like some sort of customized fancy font that you can't use here, you should probably make a image file from it and stick it on your page somewhere.

I really like your page and the pictures, but maybe you should be more clear about the slope formula. :]

Good information. Some formatting problems make you page a little difficult to read.
